Privacy notice
Last updated 20 July 2026.
This notice explains what personal data Kerbside Check Ltd collects when you use this site, why we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. We are the data controller.
- Kerbside Check Ltd, registered in England, company number 14829201.
- Registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), reference ZB672104.
- Contact us about privacy at privacy@kerbsidecheck.co.uk.
What we collect
- The registration you check. The number plate you enter, and the vehicle record we retrieve for it.
- Your email address. Given when you ask us to send a free report, when you buy a full report, or when you sign in.
- Your checks and reports. The reports we generate and your history of checks, so you can find them again.
- Payment details. If you buy a full report, payment is handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number.
- Technical data. Your IP address and basic device information, used to keep the service secure and to prevent abuse.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To run the check and send you the report you asked for. This is necessary to provide the service you requested (performance of a contract, and our legitimate interest in delivering it).
- To save your checks so you can return to them. Our legitimate interest in providing a useful service, and performance of a contract where you have an account.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse (rate limiting, fraud prevention). Our legitimate interest, as each lookup has a real cost.
- To take payment for a full report. Performance of a contract and compliance with our legal obligations (for example, tax records).
Marketing
We only email you about the report you asked for and your account. We do not send you marketing emails, and we do not sell your data. If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent first and you will be able to opt out at any time.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the providers we need to run the service:
- DVLA, DVSA and our vehicle-data suppliers, to look up the vehicle record for the registration you enter.
- Stripe, to process payments for full reports.
- Our email provider, to send your report and account emails.
We may also disclose data where the law requires it. We are not affiliated with the DVLA, DVSA or gov.uk.
How long we keep it
We keep your reports and check history for as long as you have an account with us. For checks made without an account, we keep the record for up to 12 months, after which it is deleted. Payment and tax records are kept for as long as the law requires. You can ask us to delete your data sooner (see below).
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct data that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your data;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;
- ask us to move your data to another provider.
If you have an account, you can delete it and all associated data from your account page. Otherwise, email privacy@kerbsidecheck.co.uk and we will act on your request. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to run the site: keeping you signed in and keeping the service secure. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies, so no cookie consent banner is required.
